SW CT State Qualifier February 19, 2012 @ Foran HS Milford, CT @ 7:30 AM

February 12, 2012

Parents,

Our season is now entering the final stretch.

On February 19, 2012, the state qualifier will be held at Foran HS in Milford. Unlike other tournaments we have competed in, this tournament requires weigh-ins, and wrestlers will wrestle in traditional brackets, though each wrestler is guaranteed 2 bouts. The top 4 placewinners in each weight will go the state tournament the FOLLOWING WEEKEND (FEB. 26) IN NEW HAVEN. ALL WYW WRESTLERS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.

THE ATTACHED FLYER CONTAINS ALL THE INFORMATION FOR THE TOURNAMENT. Given the volume of emails, please kindly review the attached and save it, as we are increasingly unable to respond to last minute information requests.

We will weigh the boys this week to get some idea of weight classes. We also know that some families will be around to wrestle but may be away in the intervening week. Remember that the boys who qualify must make the same weight the following weekend to compete. THEREFORE, WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE OUR WRESTLERS TO WRESTLE AT A WEIGHT THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE EXCESSIVE EXERCISE OR FOOD / LIQUID DEPRIVATION TO MAKE. WILTON YOUTH WRESTLING DISCOURAGES OUR WRESTLERS FROM ANY WEIGHT LOSS FOR THIS EVENT. IT IS UNHEALTHY AT THIS AGE AND MAY HAVE ADVERSE LONG-TERM CONSEQUENCES.
If your son intends to participate, please advise me no later than Wednesday February 15, 2012 @ 8 PM. PLEASE ONLY RESPOND IF YOUR SON WILL COMPETE. NO RESPONSE WILL INDICATE TO US THAT YOUR SON IS NOT WRESTLING.

If you have any questions about the tournament or weight classes, please contact any of the coaches.

2012 Tiger Classic Results

January 15, 2012

As many of you know by now, Wilton Youth Wrestling won the 9th Annual Tiger Classic, held at Princeton University, 31-23.  The 2012 Tiger Classic was hosted by the Princeton PAWS – a wonderful team and very gracious hosts.   The day held over 80 matches between the two teams.  It was a day filled with many hard fought battles against a very good team.  The team members of WYW have a great deal to be proud of for this accomplishment – it was an excellent team effort.

Thanks to James Andersen, photos of the event can be found at our Facebook Gallery page.  Please feel free to download and/or tag any photos of the event.

Princeton trip correction

January 12, 2012
The date for Saturday’s match was incorrectly listed as January 17. The match is SATURDAY JANUARY 14. Apologies.
Secondly, we suggest that parents also pack something to eat, as we are unsure what concessions will be available at the gym. PAWS sometimes runs some sort of concession stand, but there is no guarantee.
Apologies for any confusion on the date.
